After Prince Charles tested positive for coronavirus for the second time, Queen Elizabeth II contracted the virus on Sunday morning, the British royal house said in a statement from Buckingham Palace.

Buckingham Palace statement

” Buckingham Palace confirms that The Queen has today tested positive for COVID-19. Her Majesty is experiencing mild cold-like symptoms but expects to continue light duty at Windsor over the next week. She will continue to receive medical care and will follow all appropriate guidelines, ” the statement said.

The queen, 95 years old, has the complete schedule of the vaccine plus a booster. However, being in direct contact with Prince Charles, she has been infected. The announcement comes just weeks after Queen Elizabeth achieved her historic Platinum Jubilee of her 70th year on the throne.

The British royal house also announced that “it has its own doctors” at its disposal and that they will be available “to care for and monitor its health”. Specifically, Huw Thomas, head of the medical house and doctor of the queen, will be in charge of ensuring the state of the monarch. The Duchess of Cornwall has also tested positive for coronavirus.
