Mexican authorities and Internet users celebrated on Tuesday the four nominations for the next Oscar for the film “Nightmare Alley” by Mexican director Guillermo del Toro, as well as the nomination of director Carlos López for his animated film “Raya and the Last Dragon”.
“Mexican talent will be present at the 2022 Oscars. Congratulations to Guillermo del Toro for his nomination for the extraordinary film ‘The Alley of Lost Souls’ and to Carlos López Estrada for ‘Raya and the Last Dragon,'” the secretary wrote. of Culture Alejandra Frausto on her Twitter.
This Tuesday the four nominations that Del Toro’s “El Alley of Lost Souls” received from the Hollywood Academy for the shortlists of best film, best photography, best production design, and best costume design were announced.
Likewise, the Mexican director Carlos López Estrada -son of the producer Carla Estrada-, achieved a nomination for the best-animated film for his work on “Raya and the Last Dragon” as a director together with Don Hall, Osnat Shurer, and Peter Del Vecho.
“Two Mexicans nominated for the 2022 Oscars! ‘Nightmare Alley’, directed by Guillermo del Toro, (…) and Carlos López for ‘Raya and the Last Dragon’ (…) Congratulations to both!”, expressed the Mexican Institute of Cinematography (IMCINE) through a tweet.
But Del Toro and López will not be the only Mexicans at the most important gala in cinema, since Eugenio Derbez will also be present thanks to the three nominations received by the film “CODA”, in which he participated as an actor: best-adapted screenplay, best supporting actor for Troy Kotsur, and best film, for which he will be competing with the film by the already award-winning Guillermo del Toro.
The actor shared his reaction on social networks upon hearing the announcement of the nominations, where friends such as actor Adrián Uribe and singer Camila Cabello, among others, expressed their admiration for the comedian.
