Pauley Perrette is finally speaking out about the “massive stroke” she had a year ago.

In a post uploaded on Friday and shared on social media, the former NCIS star tweeted a video with the comment “It’s 9/2.” I had a massive stroke a year ago. Before it, I had to say farewell to many beloved family members and acquaintances, as well as my father and later my cousin Wayne. Nonetheless, despite everything that has occurred to me, I am a survivor… And yet, I am so grateful, I have so much trust, and I am STILL HERE!

In the video, Perrette addresses her audience while reflecting on the “first anniversary” of her stroke and sharing some personal views.

“Yes, you can count on me to show up again. “Like, how many times do I get away with murder?” she said. I was on the verge of passing out due to my allergy to hair dye. In addition to having survived rape and domestic violence, I have severe food allergies. I was attacked by a mentally disturbed homeless person, and despite coming very near to death, I am still alive. I’m feeling a lot of appreciation right now, especially for all of my rescued dogs who are standing over there. I’m here, I’m still here, and I’m in a good mood. I’ve had a lot of ups and downs in the last two years. There are worse things than having a stroke, but the fact that I’m still alive and grateful keeps me going.

After 15 seasons on the CBS drama NCIS as forensic investigator Abby Sciuto, Perrette announced her departure from the show in 2017. When she made the news, the actress debunked rumors about why she was quitting the series, noting that it was a decision made a year previously and “not owing to a nonexistent skin-care brand or rupture” with the network or her castmates. She also stated that she chose to leave the series. “I hope everyone will cherish and enjoy EVERYTHING ABBY not only for the rest of this season but for everything she has given all of us for the previous 16 years,” Perrette wrote at the time. “I admire her just as much as you do, for all the love, fun, and inspiration she brings into my life.”
