King Charles III has announced that Prince William and his wife, Catherine, will take their places as the new Prince and Princess of Wales, respectively.
During his first speech as monarch on Friday night, a day after his mother’s passing, King Charles announced their new titles. The announcement came during his first speech as monarch.
According to Charles, who formerly held the position of Prince of Wales, “Today, I am happy to create him Prince of Wales, Tywysog Cymru.”
The official website of the royal family has been changed to reflect the couple’s new titles.
The news was delivered by the newly crowned monarch during his first address to the nation since the passing of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, on Thursday at the age of 96.
“I know that he and Catherine, our new Prince and Princess of Wales, will continue to inspire and lead our national dialogues,” he added. “With Catherine by him, our new Prince and Princess of Wales will.” He went on to say that with their assistance, “the marginal may be brought to the center ground where crucial treatment could be offered.”
In addition to this, the couple will assume the titles of Duke and Duchess of Cornwall, which were formerly held by the King and his wife, Camilla, who will succeed him as Queen Consort.
The King continued by saying that he had “been so highly privileged to carry during so much of my life and duty” the title of Prince of Wales throughout his entire life.
On Friday, King Charles was seen outside Buckingham Palace.

The Princess of Wales title, which had previously belonged to Camilla but was never used by her, will now be used for the first time by Catherine, making her the first person to do so since Princess Diana.
In response to the announcement of her new royal title, the newly crowned Princess of Wales stated that she “appreciates the heritage associated with this duty.” After being engaged to Prince William in 2010, Catherine referred to Princess Diana as “an admirable woman to look up to” in one of her quotes.
In addition, at the time, Prince William remarked, “There’s no pressure because, as Kate said, it is about crafting your destiny.” At the time, William was living and working in Anglesey, which was also the location of his military training with the Royal Air Force. Nobody is attempting to take my mother’s place as a caregiver. It was a wonderful thing that she did.
“It’s about making your future and your destiny, and Kate will do a very good job of that,” said the professor. “It’s about making your future.”
Even though King Charles stated that William will succeed him as Prince of Wales, many individuals continue to sign a petition demanding the elimination of the title, which is considered by some to be a representation of subjection. It had reached 7,000 by the time Saturday AM rolled around.
Mark Drakeford, the first minister of Wales, expressed his excitement about the prospect of developing a closer relationship with the newly appointed Prince and Princess of Wales.
He stated, “King Charles III has enjoyed a long friendship with Wales that has stood the test of time.” William, his eldest son, has been given the title of Prince of Wales as part of his father’s first public responsibility as monarch, which came at the most challenging time in recent history. As the new Prince and Princess of Wales take on their new responsibilities, we look forward to expanding our relationship with them as they continue in their roles.
The heir to the throne does not necessarily acquire the title by right of inheritance. Charles did not get it until 1958, which was six years into Queen Elizabeth’s reign at the time it was awarded.
The ceremony that elevated him to the position of Prince of Wales took place in 1969 at Caernarfon Castle in Gwynedd. At the time, the King was only 20 years old.
In June of this year, Prince Charles was spotted making his way to a national service of thanksgiving for the Queen’s reign that was held at Saint Paul’s Cathedral in London. The image of Charles was captured via an open car window, which reflected red uniforms below his face.
The arduous journey that Prince Charles has had to take to ascend to the throne
Even though the investiture was seen by millions of people throughout the globe thanks to television, the title of the prince has been met with a mixed reception in Wales.
According to the findings of a survey that was carried out in June 2022 by ITV and YouGov and involved a total of 1,020 people, 46% of respondents believed that there should be another Prince of Wales, while 31% did not.
After the news was broken, the leader of Plaid Cymru, Adam Price, made the following statement in response to the news: “There will be time, in due course, for a public debate regarding the title of the Prince of Wales.”
“It has been Plaid Cymru’s long-held opinion that it should be the people’s democratic right to have a final say on this topic in an independent Wales. This is something that Plaid Cymru strongly believes in. At this time, Plaid Cymru’s thoughts and prayers are with the royal family as they go through this difficult time.
