President Joe Biden will emphasize on Tuesday that he will defend “the right to vote against all foreign and national enemies” by supporting an electoral reform that protects the attempts to restrict the suffrage that the Republican opposition is carrying out at the state level.

Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris will travel to Atlanta today to discuss the “urgent need to pass a law that protects the constitutional right to vote.”

“In the next few days, when these legislative proposals are put to the vote, a turning point will be marked in this nation,” the president will say, according to excerpts from the speech advanced by the White House.

The Republican party managed to pass last year under the presidency of Donald Trump (2017-2021) 33 laws restricting voting in 19 states, especially minorities.

“I will not give in. I will defend your right to vote and our democracy against all foreign and national enemies” he remarked.

In a speech in the summer of 2021, Biden described the Republican-driven voting restrictions at the state level as “the most significant challenge to (American) democracy since the civil war” of the mid-19th century.

Ten months before the November legislative elections in the United States, in which part of the federal Congress and numerous positions at the state level will be renewed, the Democrats have decided to return to the load with an attempt to pass an electoral reform, but they are they face Republican opposition in the Senate, where the Democratic majority is very narrow.
