US President Joe Biden

The US president made the announcement as international air transport operations accelerate to evacuate those people before the August 31 deadline.

US President Joe Biden said Monday that the United States will receive all Afghans who have assisted it in the war, as international airlift operations accelerate to evacuate those people before the August 31 deadline.

“Once selected and approved, we will welcome the Afghans who assisted us in the war effort to their new home in the United States of America.”, Wrote the president on Twitter.

“Because that’s what we are. That’s what the United States is, ”he added.

Biden said on Sunday that he hopes to comply with the evacuation from Afghanistan by August 31 , although he warned that it could be extended given the danger at the Kabul airport and the risk of terrorist attacks.

“There are discussions about the extension. Our hope is that we don’t have to, ”Biden said at the White House.

However , the Taliban said they will not extend the deadline for the forces to leave Afghanistan and warned that there will be “consequences” if the United States and other foreign countries do not complete the withdrawal and evacuations from Afghanistan by the deadline.

The United States has removed 37,000 people from Afghanistan since August 14 , a figure that rises to 42,000 if you start counting from the end of July.

According to data provided by the US Department of Defense on Monday, there are currently 5,800 US soldiers deployed at the airport to ensure the safety of their Afghan nationals and collaborators who are being evacuated from Afghanistan, following the rise of the Taliban to power.

The Pentagon insisted on Monday that it wants to complete the withdrawal by August 31 , although it indicated that if an extension of that deadline is necessary, it will offer the president options to make the correct decision.
