United States: Joe Biden’s nomination will be without Donald Trump

joe bidden

Donald Trump, more and more politically isolated, does not budge. The president announced on Twitter that he would not be attending Joe Biden’s inauguration ceremony on January 20 in Washington.

This is one of Donald Trump’s first tweets to return after being banned from Twitter for 12 hours, and this tweet did not go unnoticed: “  To all those who are wondering,” wrote the president, “ I won’t go. not at the nomination on January 20 ”.

Despite the intense political pressure since the attack on the Capitol by his supporters on Wednesday, despite the serial resignations within his administration including two of his ministers, Donald Trump therefore continues to make Donald Trump and contest his defeat.

Opposite the Democrats are worrying more and more seriously about the mental health of the one who remains President of the United States for another 12 days. Opposition leaders in Congress are calling Trump ” imbalanced .” Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Shummer therefore plan to launch a new impeachment procedure on Monday . They also ask Vice-President Mike Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment. This article of the Constitution provides for the dismissal of the president if he is deemed unfit by a majority of his cabinet.

Congress will act if Trump stays in the White House

The impeachment project was therefore written in record time. He retains one charge against the President of the United States: that of incitement to insurgency. This text could be presented to the chamber on Monday and put to the vote on Wednesday, as explained by Jackie Speier, elected Democrat of California.

“ We’re not doing this just for the next ten days, we’re doing it for future generations. If one is not able to declare that incitement to insurgency by the President of the United States is a crime punishable by impeachment then I do not know what a crime punishable by impeachment is  ”

If the chamber votes on the text on Wednesday, it would then go to the Senate. If passed, impeachment would seriously compromise Donald Trump’s political future. Indeed, if it were endorsed by the House of Representatives and then voted on by two-thirds of the senators, this could prevent him from running for re-election in 2024 or even running for president in the future – a possibility he is considering . Even if the procedure does not succeed, this is the strategy that the Democrats wish to initiate, to prevent new episodes of chaos as explained by Alix Meyer, lecturer in American civilization at the University of Burgundy.

It is a way to mark the occasion: there was a clear incitement to riot on the part of the President of the United States; the legislature, which has been directly attacked, must respond because otherwise Trump won. It is therefore to try to show that there is a minimum of consequences for the President’s actions when they go against the oath he has taken to defend the Constitution of the United States.

But the process risks encroaching beyond the January 20 date of the inauguration. A prospect that hardly arouses the enthusiasm of President-elect Joe Biden.

In addition, Nancy Pelosi announced to have asked the heads of the American army to prevent Donald Trump from having access to the codes of nuclear weapons and from starting a war. The leader of the Democrats in the House also ensures that Congress ” will act ” in case Donald Trump refuses to leave the White House voluntarily.

Biden: “he is unfit”

US President-elect Joe Biden is delighted that Donald Trump has decided not to attend his swearing-in ceremony on January 20. “ It’s a good thing, ” the Democrat said. Vice-President Mike Pence is ”  welcome,  ” however, he added in a speech from his home in Wilmington, Delaware. In addition, Joe Biden left to Congress the responsibility of opening or not an impeachment procedure against Donald Trump twelve days before the end of his mandate.

I have been saying for over a year that he is unfit for his job. He is unfit. He is one of the most incompetent presidents in the history of the United States of America. And so the issue is not whether I think he should have stepped down yesterday. The question is: what will happen in the thirteen days that remain? And I think what 81 million Americans have said is that it’s time for him to go. And the quickest way to do that is to wait for our swearing-in on the 20th. What happens before or after that is a decision that is up to Congress, but for me, that’s what. I am waiting: that he leaves his functions. I was told that he did not intend to attend the investiture ceremony. This is one of the few things that he and I agree on: Joe Biden said.
