Against Auxerre, Stade Rennais put on an offensive symphony in Ligue 1.

Ligue 1: offensive festival for Stade Rennais against Auxerre

During the seventh day of the Ligue 1 season on Sunday afternoon, Stade Rennais made quick work of AJ Auxerre by defeating them 5-0. A gathering that was memorable due to the injury sustained by Baptiste Santamaria.

After a disappointing tie in Troyes, Stade Rennais got back on track this past Sunday with a decisive victory over AJ Auxerre (4-0), which took place at Roazhon Park on the seventh day of Ligue 1 play. A match in which Baptiste Santamaria had a horrific ankle twist and had to be carried off the field on a stretcher (9th).

The action started fast in the first period. Stade Rennais scored first courtesy to Kamaldeen Sulemana, who received a deflected ball and finished the play with a flat foot against Benoit Costil on the left side from the surface. This gave Stade Rennais a great advantage in the first quarter of an hour, which they used to immediately take the lead (2nd). After the Auxerre goalkeeper was eliminated, the youthful striker nearly scored a double on a deep service from Martin Terrier. However, his shot was rejected by a miraculous return by tackle Paul Joly. Martin Terrier was the provider of the deep service (16th). Despite this, it was difficult for the Bretons to maintain consistency in the product content. The constantly vulnerable defense planted seeds of uncertainty in the minds of the Rouge et Noir, who had to contend with the gradual awakening of Auxerre. The players for Furlan were able to produce some exciting possibilities with Birama Touré (in the 27th minute), Mathias Autret (in the 31st minute), or even M’Baye Niang (in the 37th minute), but they lacked conviction or consistency in their final gesture.

Through effective passing of the ball, Auxerre was able to take control of possession in the second half. Because Sinayoko provided the assist with a cross, AJA was able to get clear opportunities very fast (51st). However, Amine Gouiri fooled Costil with a flat foot while spinning face-to-face to take advantage of an enormous mistake made by Alexandre Coeff, who dropped the ball near his surface (60th). It is the first goal scored by the player in the Breton jersey after previously playing for Lyon. A few minutes later, Martin Terrier made the break by taking the ball at the far post on a wonderful assist from Gouiri that overflowed on the right side. This allowed him to score the game-winning goal (68th). During a particularly drawn-out clearance from Steve Mandanda, Flavien Tait found himself face-to-face with someone. After nudging the ball with his head to get the goalie from Auxerre out of the way, he made a challenge to finish the game off with a goal in the back of the net (80th). While the defense had been successful in fending off the attempts of Majer and Bourigeaud, Matthis Edline scored his first goal in Ligue 1 with some assistance from an advantageous counterattack (85th).

Stade Rennais is now in sixth place in the standings, having earned 11 points so far, while AJ Auxerre is tied for 14th place with Troyes. The following weekend, Rennes will travel to Marseille on Sunday, while the Burgundians will play host to Lorient at Abbé-Deschamps.
