Rugby: injured, Welsh back Liam Williams forfeited for autumn tests

Fullback for the Welsh XV According to an announcement made by Cardiff on Tuesday, Liam Williams will be unable to participate in his team’s upcoming autumn international tour since he fractured his collarbone while playing in his debut game for the club.

The back suffered an injury on Saturday during the first half of the encounter between his new side Cardiff and Munster (20-13 victory). He underwent surgery on Monday evening, which will likely keep him off the field for a good deal of time.

According to a statement released by the club, Liam Williams underwent surgery for his collarbone injury the previous night.

The team stated that Williams will need between 12 and 16 weeks to recover from his injury.

Because of this, Welsh XV coach Wayne Pivac, whose team will host New Zealand, Argentina, Georgia, and Australia in November, will be forced to make do without Williams’ experience, 81 caps, and versatility, with Williams, also offering solutions for wing positions. Williams also offers options for playmaking on the wings.

For the fullback position, Pivac has Johnny McNicholl and Leigh Halfpenny as potential options to rely on. Due to a significant knee injury, Halfpenny hasn’t played in almost a year, but there is hope that he may be able to return for the fall tour.
