South Africa wants the 2027 Women’s World Cup.

Football: South Africa wants to apply to host the 2027 Women's World Cup

Joint plans for a bid for the World Cup in 2027 have already been developed by the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany.

The South African Football Federation (SAFA) announced on Tuesday that the country plans to put in a proposal to host the women’s FIFA World Cup in 2027. In 2010, South Africa played home to the men’s edition of the tournament. “We would love nothing more than the opportunity to host the women’s tournament once more in 2027 and spread out the red carpet for them.” Tebogo Motlanthe, Director General of SAFA, gave an interview to AFP.

During the meeting that took place over the weekend of the previous weekend, the executive council of the federation concluded. An application on behalf of all three countries has already been sent in by Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands. After giving it some serious consideration, South Africa ultimately decided against bidding to host the women’s competition in 2023.

First and only African country to organize the Men’s World Cup

In 2010, the country in southern Africa became the only nation on the African continent to have ever hosted a World Cup football tournament. The 64 matches that were scheduled in just one month were played over ten different stadiums, five of which were purpose-built for the event. Teams that play football and rugby are now making use of these facilities.

South Africa, Morocco, Zambia, and Nigeria are the four African nations that have qualified to compete in the Women’s World Cup in 2023, which will be jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand. Ten teams, including Cameroon and Senegal, have made it through to the playoffs, which will take place in February 2023. There are still three positions up for grabs.
