Attic, Mansard, Cellar: Conquering new Storage Spaces

In times of confinement, our living spaces, which are more than ever shared, always seem too small to us. If we cannot push the walls, it is always possible to conquer spaces still vacant, the occupation of which will free up space in the living rooms.

While looking well in the heights as in the depths of the house, one often discovers unexploited areas which only ask to be arranged and made profitable.

From the attic to the attic

The attic, that is to say the unfinished attic located just under the frame, is intended to store objects that have become unnecessary on a daily basis but that we want to keep.

Even very little visited, this space must be kept in order. Check the contents of the boxes, do not leave items loose, classify them by nature and place labels on closed containers.

Once fitted out, the attic rooms offer storage space in all areas located near the ground where the height is no longer sufficient to stand up.

They are fitted with low shelves or closed cupboards made to measure.

The sliding door cupboards and hanging files are ideal for storing books, files, old board games, off-season clothes or shoes.

In the cellar, store without crowding

The other almost final storage space is located in the depths of the house.

The cellar, which is not in principle intended to become a living room, at most a workshop, can still accommodate arrangements that optimize its use.

Stackable crates, racks and modular shelves allow you to place all kinds of objects in good order, from the bicycle wheel to the bottle of wine.

The main advantage of this equipment is to avoid shapeless piles that discourage any attempt to exhumation and promote deterioration due to humidity.

The cellar is then a well-managed storage place where everyone can deposit and find all too cumbersome equipment in the living rooms.

The rich underside of the stairs

In the house, the main providers of available space are the stairs. The space left under a staircase can easily accommodate shelves or a custom-made cupboard.

Do-it-yourselfers will soon have installed simple shelves attached to the wall. A few wooden planks cut to the right measurements, screws and cleats, and voila!

Obviously, invisible or rack mountings work just as well. It is also possible to accommodate boxes, drawers and prefabricated shelves offered by DIY stores.

However, care must be taken to ensure that these elements remain perfectly accessible.

Make the volume of parts profitable

In the house, it is necessary to make profitable the available volume. In general, the height is not used enough: when space is lacking, the entire height of the room can be used.

The shelves and hanging units high enough or even above the doors open up new storage possibilities.

The tops of the cabinets can also be invested with flat elements.

If the floor space is already occupied by a low storage cabinet, arrange for the entire space above to be lined with shelving and shelving.

 Store well in small corners

Other smaller spaces, but many just ask to participate in the large storage.

In the toilets, small extra shelves are always welcome to accommodate cleaning products, as is the space under the bathroom sink.

The undersides of the beds must not remain vacant if there is not enough space in the house. It will be furnished with large drawers or storage chests to accommodate sheets, ears and other bedding items.

Finally, a mini wardrobe can be placed behind each door thanks to hooks specially designed for this purpose.
