This summer, the dial of the iconic square watch made by the Swiss watchmaker takes on a color that is quite remarkable.

Those who appreciate fine timepieces may have noticed that there have been several color dial trends that have followed one another on the wrist in recent years. How many will have been introduced to us as the new trendy color, particularly green? More recently, Tiffany-style blue dials have been sweeping across timepieces, and this trend is likely to endure for as long as styles do. Purple, though, is a hue that is infrequently found on wristwatches. If you look hard enough, you could find it. A color that, despite being sophisticated, dressy, and unique all at once, had only been utilized by a select few unique independent labels up until that point, such as Czapek or Moritz Grossmann. On the other hand, this time we can find a new “Purple Queen” on the side of TAG Heuer, which would not have been on Prince’s wrist…

The Monaco Purple Dial is a limited edition watch that has only been produced in 500 numbered copies and is only sold at the boutiques of the brand. This chronograph with a 39 mm square steel case was first introduced in 1969. It now features a purple face, which is a significant departure from the watch’s initial blue version. While the rhodium-plated indexes and the rhodium-plated hands are coated in white Super-LumiNova, the gradient of the dial, which is light in the middle and dark on the edge, gives the watch a sophisticated and profound personality. The smokey appearance of this limited edition is highlighted by the presence of two black opaline auxiliary counters. A supplementary point of interest in terms of style is that the alligator leather strap in black has a matching purple lining on the inside.
