Sony confirms that the PlayStation 5 is out of stock globally. The brand evokes an “unprecedented” demand and says that its new console will be back “by the end of the year”.

Since its launch on November 19, the PlayStation 5 has been conspicuous by its absence from retailers’ shelves. The success of the pre-orders on September 17 had already given a glimpse of Sony’s difficulties in meeting demand.

Highly anticipated, the launch of the console came in the midst of a pandemic and this disrupted the brand’s plans, as Jim Ryan explains.

In an interview with Russian news agency Tass , the CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment looks back on the early days of the PS5. He also confirms that his latest console is out of stock globally.

“Everything is sold. Absolutely everything is sold […] I’ve spent much of the last year trying to make sure we can generate enough demand for the product. And now […] I spend a lot more time trying to increase supply to meet that demand, ” says Jim Ryan.

The boss of the video games division of Sony returns to the “challenge on the production side” to launch the PlayStation 5 in 2020 and explains that his teams “had to do all the preparation of the production remotely and in video” . I

l adds, “Of all the things I’ve learned this year, one is that I wouldn’t plan to do another big console launch in the midst of a global pandemic, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone over there. other. It was difficult ” .

However, Jim Ryan assures that Covid-19 alone does not explain this global stock shortage. He confirms that the PlayStation 5 would not have been any different without coronavirus and believes that Sony “might have had a few more [PS5s] to sell, but not a lot” , believing that the production and manufacturing teams “have done miracles ” .

PS5 will be available in France before the end of the year

This announcement leaves some hope for players who hope to have a PS5 at the foot of the tree. On Twitter, PlayStation France confirms that the PS5 is the brand’s biggest console launch.

Sony evokes an “unprecedented” demand and confirms “that new quantities of PS5 will arrive at [its] dealers by the end of the year” .

If the Japanese firm does not communicate the sales figures, this announcement seems to confirm the public’s enthusiasm for this new generation of consoles. Its rival Microsoft also referred to the “best launch in Xbox history” to greet the debut of the Xbox Series X and S.
