During the time of the Rencontres de la photographie, it can be challenging to navigate through the streets of Arles, which are in their full effervescence. In the middle of the day, at the headquarters of the Meetings, a discussion about copyright and NFTs are held in front of an audience that has been rendered unresponsive by the heat.
In the evening, the Place du Forum is transformed into a Tower of Babel with its terraces, which attract renowned photographers, students, amateurs, and foreign tourists who are interested in seeing this cultural phenomenon in this characteristic Provencal town. Because a significant part of the festival’s allure derives from how it successfully blends the spirit of Pagnol with the worlds of art and commerce, creating an environment in which everyone strums on their smartphones while wearing sandals by Tod’s or Birkenstock.
