The system managed to somehow ‘break’ the game and get to the end of it
Tetris has become one of the most iconic games in history, not only for being one of the most popular video games of all time but also for bringing together millions of players in the ‘Classic Tetris World Championship (CTWC)’ where they compete to be the best in said puzzle and skill game, and, despite the fact that these players have made an effort to improve their techniques to score more points, they have been vastly surpassed by an Artificial Intelligence.
The AI named ‘StackRabbit’ was developed by Google software engineer Greg Cannon and uses advanced techniques to play and analyze each game to improve in order to develop more optimal strategies, that combined with superhuman reflexes have made it break all existing records and reach the ‘end’ of the acclaimed title.
Currently, the version used to compete worldwide is the 8-Bit video game created for the NES console, a title that becomes almost impossible when reaching level 29 where the speed is doubled, and, despite the fact that some people have managed to surpass said level, the game begins to display graphical glitches as the load on the old console’s processor increases.
According to the Guinness Book of Records, the most skilled human player in Tetris is Joseph Saelee, who reached level 34; but nevertheless, Cannon’s AI managed to reach level 237 of the game with a score of 102,252,920 which he achieved by accumulating lines since the main strategy of the game is to accumulate sets of four figures in vertical mode and then undo them.
The game as such lasts one hour and five minutes in which the developer shows how the video game begins to fail, as it begins to use wrong graphic elements to assemble its figures, in addition to showing new colors or ‘designs’ of the highest levels.
The interesting thing about this game is that the machine never really lost, it was the game that really gave in and closed because it ended up overflowing its processing capacity, so level 237 could be considered the ‘end’ of Tetris.
